Gagana – Aspiring Lawyer

The legal system has given the country some fine minds and we are glad that Akshaya Patra’s beneficiaries too intend to become a part of the illustrious fraternity of lawyers. Gagana, a 13-year-old student of Std VII at Government Higher Primary School, Jyothipura, Bengaluru, who harbours such intentions, tells us about her future ambitions – “I want to become a lawyer because I want to throw all wrongdoers in jail. I would uphold the law and protect the clients’ rights. I will remain loyal to my work and not accept bribe.”

The daughter of a labourer father and a mother who works a housemaid, Gagana is fascinated by the way lawyers draw logical conclusions and assumptions from limited information. She also likes the way people respect lawyers and the power they enjoy. In the process of achieving her goals, Gagana wants to study well, become independent, and lend a helping hand to her parents as well when she grows up. When asked about the mid-day meals served by The Akshaya Patra Foundation, Gagana told us that she liked these nutritious meals. She added, “I like all meals served by Akshaya Patra, but Bisi Bele Bath is my favourite. I also love the sweet served.”

Gagana’s siblings – a brother in Std IX and a sister in Std VI – both of whom are Akshaya Patra’s beneficiaries, too love the wholesome and nutritious meals served by the Foundation at their school. Her favourite subjects are Hindi and Kannada. She elaborates with a smile, “I like the way Miss Devika teaches Hindi and Kannada. She motivates us to learn and also advises us. I will work hard and score good grade.”
