Super modernised kitchen coming soon!
In approximately three months Akshaya Patra is set to open one of its largest kitchens yet in Hyderabad. Fitted with state-of-the-art cooking equipment the kitchen will be capable of cooking huge quantities of food in a very short span of time. In fact, it will be able to cook 1,600 kg of rice in half an hour, 4,800 litres of sambar in 45 minutes and 2,000 kg of sabzi (vegetable) in one hour! The kitchen will be constructed over two acres of property leased for 33 years in Kokapet.
Currently the kitchen in Telangana cooks food using Cauldron Technology that is more time consuming. In order to produce food sufficient for one lakh children 20,000 kg of rice, 8,000 litres of sambar and 1,000 kg of sabzi is cooked.
Explaining the marked improvement that will come about in the new kitchen, Satya Goura Chandra Dasa, President of Akshaya Patra for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh said, “With existing technology, we used to start cooking at 3 am and complete it by around 9 am, but soon we will be able to finish the cooking in two hours, from 6.30 am to 8.30 am.”
The customised machines will be imported from Sweden and used to provide healthy and nutritious food to the Akshaya Patra beneficiaries of the region.
“We have already conducted trial runs of the food machines in Sweden and they have been successful. Once the GHMC sanctions the building plan, we will begin construction. It is estimated that the new kitchen will be operational in three months,” Chandra Dasa said.
