Smriti Irani visits Akshaya Patra, Gujarat

Newly appointed Union Minister of Human Resource Development, Smriti Irani, recently visited Kudasan Primary School, Gandhinagar a beneficiary school of The Akshaya Patra Foundation. She took part in the enrolment process of the school and distributed books, uniforms and school bags to the children.

A small welcome ceremony was held in her honour at Akshaya Patra during which she emphasised on the enrolment of girl children in schools and their safety, women empowerment and so on.  During the visit Smriti Irani also went through the quality manual of the kitchen and was briefed on the kitchen operations. She interacted with the children, had the Akshaya Patra mid-day meal with them and appreciated the quality and quantity of the food that is served to them every day.

An industrious leader and a hard worker, Smriti Irani has been recognised for her various roles in Indian polity. She is known for her role in television and has often appeared on talk shows and programmes that highlight social issues. She joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in the year 2003 and within a year became Vice President of the Maharashtra Youth Wing. Her political career gained momentum when she became National Secretary of the BJP in 2010 after which she was sworn in as Member of Parliament from Gujarat to the Rajya Sabha. At 38 years of age, Smriti is the youngest member of the Cabinet Ministry.
