Millets to be included in mid-day meals
In order to integrate millets in midday meals, the Akshaya Patra Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Indian Institute of Millets Research (IIMR), Nutri Hub, and Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR).
Millets have been added to the menu for mid-day meals to counter health problems and malnutrition among students. According to The Foundation’s representatives, the same will be put into practice within a month or two.
“We will start including millets in the schools we are associated with in Karnataka and the same will be extended to other states at a later stage,” said Anant Arora, Chief Sustainability and Communication Officer, Akshaya Patra Foundation.
“Millets have now become the super food of the urban class,” stated Dr B Dayakar Rao, Chief Executive Officer of Nutri Hub and Principal Scientist of ICAR. Millets is the solution to a number of health problems brought on by an unhealthy lifestyle.
