Staff members at The Akshaya Patra Foundation, Jaipur were thrilled on Wednesday, 16 July, 2014 as former US President Bill Clinton visited this centralised kitchen as part of a health programme, according to Clinton Foundation. He arrived at Jaipur on Monday, 14 July, 2014. Clinton is on a three-day tour of India during which he will visit Lucknow as well.

The Akshaya Patra kitchen in Jaipur serves mid-day meals to 92,763 children across 1,081 government schools in the city. The kitchen also provides meals to 5,000 daily wage workers and Anganwadis.

The kitchen produces over 2,50,000 rotis (Indian flat bread), 6 tonnes of dal and 5 tonnes of rice in just three hours. Since rotis are an integral part of the local palate in North India, several roti making machines with a capacity to roll up to 2,00,000 rotis from 600 kg of wheat flour have been installed in the kitchens.

The work at the kitchen begins early in the morning to meet the target of transporting the mid-day meals on time. The kitchen has well-trained cooks and production supervisors to manage the work.

Like this, 22 other kitchens work across the nation as part of the mid-day meal programme run by Akshaya Patra. Established in the year 2000, the organisation aims to feed 5 million children by 2020. This kitchen in Jaipur was established in 2004.

Clinton is visiting our kitchen to look into the operation and delivery mechanism carried out on a daily basis.
