During the recently celebrated Joy of Giving Week, The Akshaya Patra Foundation (TAPF) in Hyderabad organised and promoted a campaign that was titled ‘A student for a student’. The campaign was supported by the students of Indus International School, Hyderabad (IISH) as part of their annual event called INSIGNIA which is the institute’s student social involvement initiative. In just one day, the students of standard XI from IISH raised Rs 90,000 to facilitate mid-day meals for 120 school students who are beneficiaries of the Akshaya Patra mid-day meal scheme. The student group also gave a presentation highlighting the work of The Akshaya Patra Foundation to sensitise all their visitors about the cause, during the event. The beneficiary school will be picked up by The Akshaya Patra Foundation.

Highlighting on the importance of being socially responsible for the youth, Principal of IISH, Omkar Joshi was quoted as saying, “Given the rising demands and needs of a rapidly changing global community, knowledge and skills for responsible citizenship at the local, state, national and global level becomes important. The School’s citizenship curriculum has evolved through a new concept of multidimensional citizenship education, whereby both the School and the community interface as partners.”

Akshaya Patra Foundation is currently providing mid-day meals to 54,849 children from 454 schools in Hyderabad. A total of 60,098 school children in Andhra Pradesh are beneficiaries of the Akshaya Patra mid-day meal scheme.
