Akshaya Nidhi supports Akshaya Patra in feeding more children
With the opening of Akshaya Nidhi, in aid of Akshaya Patra, more children will be fed across India every day. Akshaya Nidhi provides wholesome lunches to hundreds of workers employed by the industrial and corporate units at a modest price. With the support of Akshaya Nidhi; with every meal a worker eats, a child in need also gets a meal.
Going even further, the newly found organisation has also helped Akshaya Patra reduce their programme expenditure, facilitating them in investing in an advanced all-batch manufacturing unit with automatic numerical controls. This state-of-the-art equipment has not only reduced expenditure but also retains the food flavour while cooking at an industrial scale. On this Shridhar Venkat, CEO of Akshaya Patra said, “It will save 8% revenue expenditure which will go towards providing meals to 3, 00,000 children.”
The organisation, which has received a grant from the Tata Trust, has already been providing freshly cooked meals for 8 to 10 months. The wholesome meals are served at an economical cost to the workers of real-estate and infrastructure giants namely DLF and Larsen & Toubro respectively. Akshaya Nidhi’s meals have also reached the urban poor in Delhi through the Janta Meals.
Lieutenant-General Rajender Singh, Chief Executive, DLF Foundation said that the labourers are enjoying the meal that is being provided to them by Akshaya Nidhi. “In many construction sites or garment factories that don’t have canteens, workers struggle to get decent food at affordable prices,” adds Shridhar. Akshaya Nidhi is also supplying food to about 1,000 children in schools managed by DLF in Gurgaon in addition to the meals for the workers.
