Lucknow kitchen inauguration!
Akshaya Patra will be inaugurating its first kitchen in Lucknow on 15th March, 2015. The centralised kitchen which is sponsored by The Caterpillar Foundation will be inaugurated by Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav. Also present at the inauguration will be Guest of Honour Ram Govind Chaudhary Minister for Basic Education, and representatives from The Caterpillar Foundation.
The Lucknow kitchen has been constructed over two acres of land allotted to Akshaya Patra by the State Government. This is the Foundation’s second kitchen in Uttar Pradesh, and has been equipped to maintain the highest standards of quality and hygiene in its operations.
The kitchen which will cater to over 11,000 children across 109 schools has the capacity to cook 60,000 rotis (Indian flatbread), 10,000 litres of dal, and 7 tonnes of rice in a span of two hours. In the next few months Akshaya Patra intends to expand the capacity of the kitchen to serving 100,000 children across nearly 700 schools in the region.
