Akshaya Patra is humbled to announce the opening of its 61st kitchen in Kalyandurg (Anantapur), Andhra Pradesh. Uniquely, this is Akshaya Patra’s first crowdfunded kitchen.

A year ago (in Apr 2021), we launched an effort to raise funds through self, family and friends for a community kitchen. We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of countless donors, both known and unknown to us. Our large-hearted family and friends not only contributed nearly half the amount, they also spread the good message. Nearly 65% of the donors are unknown to us and most of them are new donors to Akshaya Patra.

The kitchen is now operational after obtaining all government clearances. It will serve more than 5,000 children daily as part of the Mid-Day Meal Programme for school children in government schools in and around Kalyandurg, Anantapur Dt, AP.

Akshaya Patra runs the world’s largest Mid-Day Meal Programme for school children. They do this most efficiently at a cost of around Rs 1,500/- per child per school year (approx USD 20 per child per year).
